History and Timeline for
Izendorn
A brief history of the Kingdom of Izendorn, penned in cooperation by Milford of Lanalor’s Keep, Secretary Jean of Starlen’s Crossing’s Merchant Guild and Lady Epina Fleurir of Galador on assignment to Oasis.
While it is known that peoples of
all races traveled theses lands for many years, Izendorn was officially
discovered Quentari scouts in the year (of current
reckoning) 581. Settlement soon followed
with the normal growing pains of founding a capital and wars of domain. Within the first five years, alliances
between most of the major sentient races had been achieved accepting the
sovereignty of the royal house founded by the Quentari
scouts in Galador.
Several skirmishes with the
monstrous races caused a magical rift that draws fae
into Tyrra. A
clash arose between the fae and mortal races, as well
as among the fae, in 588, embroiling the already
embattled kingdom in further bloodshed.
The local leaders of the fae (Queens Lillandra and Dulcimara of the Seelie and Unseelie Courts,
respectively) brought an end to this trouble shortly after its beginning in
cooperation with the Izendorn forces.
While the fifth of Izendorn that contains the rift was awarded to both
queens, the title of duchess of Izendorn was later granted only to Lillandra. She named
Oasis (the site of the rift) her duchal seat. Other land grants and duchies were granted
according to the loyal service to the king during the trying times of that
decade.
In the year 593, a spat between the fae queens led to a year of with no spring, the sleeping bespellment of Galador in a web
of sleep, and the encasement of Oasis in a protective dome. Many of the people starved, but the rest
survived on well-stocked stores and the open-handedness gypsy travelers. Duke Lanalor
founded his keep to protect people form the monstrous races that raided over
the winter snows. He also awarded
Belladonna’s Cavern to the gypsy king.
Between 593 and 603, only the most
careful and experienced traveler’s braved the icy passes of the mountains
surrounding Izendorn. Being thus removed
from both the outside world and their own capital, some towns fell to
ruin. Others, however, became more
vital. One merchant, a Garrett Starlen, traveled through a formerly insignificant
scavenger village simply called, the “Crossing.” As it was then one of the only points of
limited contact with the outside world, he paid for its revitalization. The town and guild system were renamed in his
honor. Troubles with the monstrous races
continued. Only strong leadership in the
remaining cities prevented the worst from occurring. As might be expected, the
strong leadership in these towns led to a cooperative and respectful alliance
of city-states awaiting the day that their king would wake.
Work on the pass near Starlen’s Crossing and other points of entry to Izendorn opened the
kingdom to outside trade once again in the spring of 603. They still, however, remain closed in the
winters, despite repeated efforts to clear them further. The return of out-kingdom trade has brought
fresh life to the remaining towns, starting once more market festivals. The people have begun to believe again in
something to celebrate, despite a few local tragedies. Queen Lillandra
encased herself in crystal to anchor the dome that protects her people in the
fall of 603, succeeded in the following spring by her daughter, Althaea. The baron
of Starlen’s Crossing died after turning against his people in 605. Other nobility have since filled the
gap. Tensions between the seelie and unseelie courts have
increased somewhat since then. Duke Lanalor has retired into his keep. Incursions from the monstrous races continued
while the treaties with the barbarian tribes are checked and rechecked. Yet, the re-building of Talosi
and Whitehill have inspired the people of Izendorn to
fresh hope, as have the courage of the nobility who have risen from among
them.

Spring 604 |
The prophesy begins. A storyteller at Lanalor's Keep, once possessed by a liche, spoke of a great change to come and strange fluctuations in the magic lent credibility to her claims. |
|
Summer 604 |
Starlen's Crossing opened up for festivals only to greet visitors with a war between the scavengers and fueled by mercenaries. An orphanage is founded to deal with the results. A deputy magistrate (sheriff) was named. At the Oasis, the self-imprisonment of Queen Lillandra to keep stable the dome around the town brought her daughter Althaea into the seat of both the Seelie Queen and the Izendorn Duchess. |
|
Fall 604 |
The re-building of Talosi begins to attract tradesmen. A tense peace began among the scavengers of Starlen's Crossing to meet what is realized to be an outside threat. |
|
Spring 605 |
The uneasy truce between the barbarian tribes around Sir Lanalor's Keep, and the increase in the lycanthropic population made travel there difficult, though some adventurers have successfully managed it. At the death and retirement of the previous Oasian squires, a tournament was held that brought new squires to both of the fae courts seated in Oasis. In Starlen's Crossing, the dark man who fueled the was defeated in battle. This starts the curse of darkness. The mercenaries became the town guard in atonement. Sovereignty in the town falls to the magistrate. |
|
Summer 605 |
In Starlen's Crossing, the curse was lifted throught he generosity of foreign visitors as well as the fierce determination of the locals. Oasis' fae and other magical residents play pranks on the mortal inhabitants as a sign of their growing acceptance of these new citizens. |
|
Spring 606 |
Starlen's was invaded by an orc army. Heavy losses caused the mercenary corps to leave the town's defense. Starlen's Crossing citizens holed up to and dug in to survive the long night. Another mercenary corps, coordinating their attack with other town defense efforts, founded cleared and founded their base, which stemmed the tidal wave of the invasion. The Oasis Trade Guild opens, quickly coordinating agreements with the guilds of Talosi, Starlen's Crossing and Sir Lanalor's Keep. While outside Oasis, an elf reclaimed his ancestral lands from another band of orcs and founded Whitehill under Althaea's duchal sponsorship. |
|
Summer and Fall 606 |
Starlen's Crossing's defenders and orcs managed to inflict losses on each other over several months. The orc army, after negotiations, left the town. The magistrate accepts the title of baroness, appointing a replacement. The guildmaster is found murdered. In the Oasis, the squire's training took them different directions, leading one into knighthood and the other into a diplomat post in the court. The lord of Whitehill yielded his title to become the unseelie squire of Oasis. His wife took up the mantle of lady of Whitehill. |
|
Spring 607 |
In Oasis, after the death of the seelie knight over the and the resignation of the unseelie squire, both queens found new squires. An unseelie lady-by-marriage confirms her title by quest. An agreement was arranged with a family of gryphons on Cave Island. Prince Irilonde made his first visit to a market festival since being pulled from the edge of the Galadore curse. After being re-called from Oasis to Regency, Lady Fluerir appoints a replacement guild coordinator. In Starlen’s Crossing, the orphanage was converted to an academy for the local children. |
|
Summer and Fall 607 |
Andorn held its first market in over a decade, sponsored by the barbarian Chief Roc and his Seneschal, Finnegan. In Starlen’s Crossing, the baroness appointed her house (a seneschal, knight [and sponsored the order], a lord attaché, guildmistress, confirmed the magistrate and a new captain of the guard) and was publically confirmed in rank by Prince Irilonde as he continued visiting his lands. In the fall, the guildmistress married a local master merchant. The new head of the mercenary corps, the Black Jackal Brigade, also wed during the market. In Oasis, the squires continue their testing. Young girls were reported missing, and found to have been turned into swans. |
